Michael is a barrister specialising in financial crime and digital assets. He is an independent consultant to the Government of the Virgin Islands and the Council of Europe’s Economic Crime and Cooperation Division.
Previously, Michael held the position of lead digital assets lawyer for the Law Officers’ Department of Jersey, C.I. In this role, he spearheaded educational initiatives and provided legal guidance on matters related to digital assets, drafting the jurisdiction’s crypto law enforcement strategy. He advised in all cases involving suspected illicit use of digital assets and the police in their public outreach efforts to educate islanders about the risks associated with crypto scams. In preparation for Jersey’s Moneyval assessment, Michael directed engagement with local policymakers, regulators, and government agencies on the subject of digital assets. He also served as the Law Officers’ representative in Jersey’s VA and VASP National Risk Assessment working group.
Additionally, Michael is the founder of BlockAML, a project operating at the intersection of digital assets, financial crime, and anti-money laundering. Through BlockAML, he offers comprehensive training programmes, digital assets services, financial crime services, and delivers keynote speaking engagements.
